The Role of the Primary Care Network (PCN) Manager in 2024

I know I'm biased, but I think the PCN Manager role is a really exciting role.

The role requires a broad skill set, the ability to manage uncertainty and ambiguity, and a 360 view of the network. I also believe there is lots of room for growth.

However, it's also a very challenging role, which I have written about extensively in a paper titled Herding Tigers - A No-nonsense Guide to Successful Primary Care Network Leadership.

The purpose of this blog is to provide further insight into the primary care network manager role and commonly asked questions.

In this blog, we will be covering:

1️⃣ What does a PCN manager do?

2️⃣ Core skills and responsibilities

3️⃣ What enhanced skills and management functions should managers be thinking about?

4️⃣ The attributes which are required but are not typically included in the job description

5️⃣ What qualifications should a manager have?

6️⃣ Do PCN managers need primary care experience?

7️⃣ The importance of leadership and management

8️⃣  What progression routes are there for the PCN Manager?

Let's jump in!
