An Introduction to The Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) for New Primary Care Network Leaders 2024

Updated: Sep 4

Introduction

If you’re new to the role of the PCN Manager or Digital and Transformation Lead, you might not have been directly involved in delivering the QOF (Quality and Outcomes Framework) indicators before.

With QOF Quality Improvement modules now a part of the GP Contract, this could be something you’ve missed, as it's not explicitly included in the PCN DES (Directed Enhanced Service).

Within your role, depending on your responsibilities and the remits you work within, you may oversee the implementation and delivery of QOF. This involves coordinating between practices, monitoring performance, facilitating peer review meetings, and ensuring compliance with new modules and standards.

If you are not directly involved, it is still important that you and the PCN staff are aware of QOF to support practices in meeting these national targets.

For further reading, you can access the NHS England » Quality and outcomes framework guidance for 2024/25, which includes a complete list of indicators with detailed definitions.
