Understanding the ARRS Landscape
Between January and February 2025, THC Primary Care conducted a survey that comes directly from what network leaders have been telling us. Primary Care Networks (PCNs) across the country are facing significant challenges in today's healthcare landscape.
They're wrestling with making roles affordable, dealing with wide variations in salaries, working hard to keep great staff, and facing increasing competition when recruiting.
While the Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme (ARRS) pay scales provide a framework, we've seen how actual compensation varies significantly.
Survey Purpose and Methodology
We've created this anonymous survey to:
-
Understand the current salary landscape for ARRS roles
-
Provide accurate market data for employers and employees
-
Help PCNs improve staff retention through competitive compensation
The results were collected from 129 participants, and we will continue to collect salary information quarterly to provide the most up-to-date insights.
Understanding Total Employment Costs
Please note that employers typically pay between 20% and 30% of base salary for additional employment costs. These additional costs include:
-
Employer National Insurance contributions
-
Pension contributions
-
Annual leave and sickness coverage
-
Management and administrative overhead
-
Training and professional development
Therefore, the annual salaries you see below do not represent the full cost of employment.
Career Progression Insights
A key insight from the survey revealed that:
-
62% feel there are opportunities for career progression
-
38% are considering leaving their post before April (the end of the current PCN Contract)
-
Salary was cited as the primary reason for considering a job change (41%)
This data is provided for informational purposes only. Individual salaries should be determined based on experience, qualifications, local market conditions, and organisational budget constraints.
We will continue to add to the data set quarterly so all roles and regions are represented.
